Envato Forums: December 2015

Few months back, I was searching for something on google then I came across to a marketplace called www.designaze.com. At that time, it was just started, so I decided to sign up and uploaded few of my themes over there.

In 6 months, I get about 25 sales (2 extended) over there. I've made about 2k$. But only few people signed up and uploaded their themes.

Recently, I created an admin theme MaterAdmin (I asked someone to work with me over this theme) which got rejected by Themeforest but got approved by Designaze and bootstrapbay. But I didn't get any sales yet. And in fact I'm seeing a huge drop in sales in past few months.

So my questions are:-

1. Is there any ongoing recession for web design marketplace?

2. And if I start my own marketplace, can I expect sales?

Any help or suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Do you have a favourite Videohive author, Scott? Maybe someone who sticks to the trend of one specific genre and a person that has been able to "brand" themselves as the "go to" person for that particular genre?

Only used it to make my videos for the 'how to' competition, so I've not used it that much, but it seems to do everything I need. Free version to try, $15 a year version for no watermarks and unlimited recording time.

Launching Envato USA Inc

Hi everyone,

Following on from Collis' October 2015 announcement, we've just released the final changes to make our American company (Envato USA Inc) live and ensure we are complying with US federal tax requirements. These include:

All Envato Market US users will now pay, and be paid by, our US company.
Swift fees have decreased from US$35 per transaction to US$25 per transaction.
US Royalty Withholding Tax (US RWHT) will be applied on all sales by non-US authors to US buyers. There are a few exceptions to this rule - see "When will Envato not apply US RWHT?" in Collis' post.
US Backup Withholding Tax (US BWT) will be withheld at the rate of 28% of total worldwide sales and remitted to the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for all authors, service providers and affiliates who have not submitted a W form (W-9, W-8 or W-8Ben).
US RWHT and US BWT will be reflected in corresponding transaction lines on the Statement page.
All revenue for the 2016 calendar year will be reported as required by the IRS in 1099 and 1042 forms.

Looking for Criticism on an AudioJungle track I made...

Hi, my name is Clayton.
I'm new here, so my sincerest apologies if this is a noobish, bad, or unwarranted question here.
I decided to become an AudioJungle author and wanted some constructive criticism before I post my song. It doesn't have a name yet, but I'd like to know if it should go okay in terms of passing the requirements in terms of overall mix quality, melody, and whatnot. If not, what do I need to fix exactly and what should I leave alone? I read the tips for authors but it doesn't really help me out that much. It's such basic info, IMHO. Lol.
I was told by many folks that a lot of my music would have a good market on here, and this certainly is not all I have.
I appreciate any helpful info that I can get.

Plugin update problems. Support after 6 months

You can contact the author anyway. If it is an issue on the authors end, I'm pretty sure any author worth their salt will respond appropriately and be grateful for bringing it up. However, why not buy extended support ? Surely paying for their time is worth the peace of mind you are after

That said, extended support was introduced not many months back, so you are still covered today unless i've missed something

Revolution Slider - Invalid Purchase Code

Whenever plugins come bundled with a theme, you simply do not receive your own license for that plugin, as the plugin is provided to you via extended license through the theme author. As such, only the theme author can provide you with plugin updates. There is no misleading or fraud here, as the use of plugins via extended license is clearly outlined in the rules and guidelines as set forth by Envato.

By buying a theme that includes bundled plugins, you acknowledge that you don't have direct access to plugin updates and support from the plugin author. If you have a problem with that, simply don't buy themes that include bundled plugins and/or purchase your own license of the plugin, which will then give you access to plugin updates and support.

But you can't expect a plugin author to give all that to you, if s/he never profited from you, when you purchased a theme that bundles their plugin. An extended license for a plugin is only 5x its standard license costs; in the end, plugin authors already do you a favor by agreeing to an extended license for the theme author, so you don't have to buy the plugin yourself. But in return, you simply have to wait on the theme author to provide a theme update, which also includes an updated version of the plugin.

But "crying wolf" and "threatening" unfounded legal actions for something that should be clearly understood by every buyer is utterly pointless and simply shows that you actually never read any of Envato's regulations. You can't have a "free" plugin and then expect the author to give you "free" support and updates on top of it. Simple as that.

Didn't know what category to drop this in. Not much of a choice.

Anyhow... so with this new set term support. I just updated to new version of plugin and it's no longer working correctly. The previous version no problems. Obviously not my fault. So what if the 6 months support is up? Seems unfair to mark a buyer's support as no longer valid, yet latest update isn't working correctly. How does one get support then? Not the buyers fault.

Very Bad Affiliate Stats

Well at least you're getting results. I tried affiliate marketing for Envato stuff. Lots of click throughs but no results. Now I did have two individuals that I recommended themes to, gave them the link, they registered and bought but I never even saw it recorded in my stats. Big zero, even though they bought and used my affiliate link. That's when I just stopped bothering with it. I had begun to question if the "real" stats were being recorded/shown.

Revolution Slider - Invalid Purchase Code

I think this just happened to me too. Selling a theme with bundled plugins only to find that you can't update them seems misleading to me, at best, and flat-out fraudulent, at worst. I smell a CLASS ACTION lawsuit in the making here for Envato and any authors who participate in the scheme.

It could start with an inquiry by any state's Attorneys General, or a referral to plaintiff litigation firm. I suggest everyone raise awareness of this issue by sending an email or two to the Attorney General in your state. If you know a partner in a litigation-oriented law firm, by all means, contact them too.

Either way, freely repost a copy of this post on Facebook, Twitter, anywhere else others might see this and that should help get the word out!

Food Theme Hard Reject, looking for feedback.

This shouldn't have been hard rejected based on design alone. There must be some coding or copyright issues that prevented this from being approved. Based on the design this theme is good to go IMHO. Though varunsridharan's feedback, though helpful, wouldn't prevent it from being accepted. Double check on all browsers in case the reviewer is seeing something different. Double check your using open source (GPL or MIT) licensed code and not distributing any images, fonts or other assets within the theme. If that's not the case, then I don't know what is.
