We chose the bottom of the item description because we didn't want the recommended items to compete with the actual item being viewed. That, and the fact that we were limited in terms of how much time we could spend on this feature because it was a Hack-fort(night) project.

That said, I completely agree that there are better places for us to display the recommendations
